The foundational principles of BOXA’s holistically pre-engineered and fabricated building system are to:
1) Minimise the use of materials and composites derived from extractive mineral or petro-chemical sources (ie cement, steel, solvents);
2) Maximise the use of bio-based renewable carbon-sequestrating materials and composites (ie timber, hemp);
3) Substantially reduce groundworks and direct impacts to the local site and its ecology by using micropile footings (avoid digging, trenching, cutting, filling ground);
4) Minimise the carbon emissions and risks associated with transport and logistics of materials and crew to and from site;
5) Minimise the time, people and risk of installation on site (relative to conventional building with brick & mortar) with a holistically pre-engineered and fabricated rapid install system;
6) Eliminate the use of water and waste produced on site.
7) Designed for disassembly, relocation and reassembly (circular economy and secondary use)

The engineered timber structural envelope substantially reduces the carbon footprint of these installations relative to other methods of conventional and pre-fabricated construction. Please refer to the BOXA Technical Document and Patent (now registered and accepted).
The BOXA micropile footing system is a highly economical use of galvanised steel to ensure the structural integrity and longevity of the foundations for these installations. The micro-pile footing system is integrated with a substructure system that results in an instant load-bearing and levelled structural substructure that can receive the floor panels. The floor is elevated off the ground by >400mm so that there is no contact with the ground and access to all services (and water storage bladders if required) in the void beneath.
The external face lamination of a 9mm sheet of Nutec Fibre Cement onto the structural CLT wall panels is also a highly economical use of this cementitious material to provide a very durable, low maintenance and aesthetic external facade that resembles a plastered brick wall with a similar maintenance requirement.
The recommended roof option from a cost and performance perspective is the Technopol Structural Insulated Panel. We can specify SIP roof panels ranging from 100 - 150mm thick (depending on the required R-value) with medium (15) density EPS with a high regrind option which means a high proportion of recycled component in the sheets. Other roof build-ups are possible and can be designed, specified and costed if required.
