Due to the camp’s remote location, transporting traditional building materials would have been both costly and environmentally disruptive. BOXA’s modular, rapid-build solution provided the perfect answer — ensuring minimal impact on the surrounding ecosystem while delivering durable, comfortable, and eco-conscious accommodation.
The installation comprised 1 x Management Unit providing private en-suite accommodation for senior personnel, and 5 x Staff Barracks offering safe, functional living spaces for operational staff. Together, these units provide a total of 44 beds, ensuring the team can live and work comfortably in a challenging environment.
In addition, a Pause Area was included to give staff a dedicated area to relax, connect, and recharge between shifts — fostering a sense of community within the camp. This was the first time BOXA has designed a community space for staff and it was well received.
BOXA’s approach ensured the project was completed swiftly, sustainably, and to the highest standards, supporting the people who keep Mbono Tented Camp running smoothly while respecting the delicate natural environment in which they operate.
